Blue Yeti

Who are we ?

Blue Yeti finds its origins into the enhancement processus of researches dealt within CNRS-LMA computer music team (Mechanics and acoustics laboratory), in particular researches dealing with music gesture and development of interactive sound systems.
Blue Yeti has acquired stiffed competencies in the fields of Computer music and Human-Computer Interaction. Blue Yeti offers to transfer innovations coming from those fields of research toward industry and other applications for custom-made interactive systems design.

Blue Yeti founders are Jean-Michel Couturier and Magnolya Roy.

  • Jean-Michel Couturier is both scientist and musician : PhD, engineer, specialist in interactive systems design and digital lutherie, he is also a composer of electroacoustic music.
  • Magnolya Roy : engineer, specialized in innovative products design / industrial design. Graphic and digital arts creator.

Our approach

Our aim is to bring our scientific and technical know-how, but also our sensibility, to cultural and pedagogical projects and to bring to these projects new and interactive creation tools.
Blue Yeti’s fields of activity are scientific research, design of new interactive systems and sharing of its experience through professional trainings, information and scientific popularization actions.

Research end development

Internal R&D
Blue Yeti develops its own research activity in order to design new concepts and new technologies, to experiment them and to apply them. These researches deal with the creation of new interaction technics, new sound processes, the improvement of existing interactive tools….

Technological transfert
Blue Yeti has strong relationships with institutional research and collaborates with several laboratories (CNRS-LMA, LaBRI), in particular for the transfert of technologies developped within these laboratories. The role of Blue Yeti is to give an applied dimension to theorical researches and to develop products that benefit of latest scientific dicoveries.

Scientific networks
Members of Blue Yeti belong, as individual, to networks that are national (AFIM), european (ConGAS) and international (NIME).

Knowledge sharing

One basement of our actions is to share knowledge through educational actions, which may be trainings dedicated to interactive systems designers or actions dedicated to a larger audience. Our actions have two aspects:

  • Educational actions using technologies as a learning tool: we are working in partnership with non-profit organisations and schools to perform edutainment projects, mixing all together points of view that may be educational, scientific, enternainment and artisitic.
  • Pedagogical actions dealing with technology itself: Through concrete and educational actions, we are aiming at making easier to designers and users the use of technologies that are a part of their everyday life. It seems important to us to place human being in the heart of interactive systems design, so that systems best fits the user and become more intuitive, in adequation with use and environment.

Artistic experimentation

Collaborations with actors of artistic creation
We attach importance to collaborations with artists in order to help them to achieve their project by bringing them our technical competencies. Most foresight interactive systems are often dedicated to art and culture. Artistic creation helps to experiment new concepts and technology that serves the artist’s intention.

Our creation approach
Through the development of our personnal creations, we are trying to make technology "alive" in order to create sensitive experiments and to create dreams that use the dreaming potential of new technologies.
