Demus

Demus is a real time electroacoustic piece of music composed for two performers. It uses two devices designed by Blue Yeti.

Let’s imagine that drawing is an action that not only creates images but also sounds...
Drawing and music are two forms of expression that have been part of the cultural background of our societies since ages. Even if they have a lot in common, they also have fundamental differences considering their relationship to time, to senses, but also to gestures.
This piece of music proposes to use the expressiveness of drawing gestures for musical purpose : drawer becomes musician and listeners are immersed in the creation.

Piece in 2 acts

The two music devices used are Grapholine device and a second instrument using granular synthesis.
The piece is composed of two acts corresponding to two sequences of drawings and which final representation is given underneath.
Drawing is progressively built, generating sounds that are accompanied and amplified by the granular instrument.
Sounds are spatialised in real time. Their position in the auditory space is linked to the position of the pen on the screen of the graphical tablet (interactive display pen).
