Competencies
Design and development of interactive multimedia systems
Blue Yeti has acquired competencies in the fields of Computer Music and Human-Computer Interaction.
Technical competencies of Blue Yeti focus on the different components of an interactive system : data processing, multimedia content and interface.
Technical competencies
- Capture and production of sound
- Capture and production of image
- Capture and analysis of gesture
- System core : mapping, graphical interaction
- Interfaces design
- Programming environment :C - C++, Cocoa, OpenGL, Max/MSP - Jitter, Jamoma, Flash, OSC, MIDI, Série protocols.
Design methodology
Blue Yeti’s works follow a rigorous design methodology :
- Needs analysis, specifications, planification.
- Product design, graphics and sound.
- Search of technological, ergonomic and aesthetic solutions that best fulfill the user and its environment.
- Choice of materials and equipment.
- Interface design and production.
- Software development (choice of programming tools and programming).
- Production of models and prototypes (digital models, 3D animations).
- Technical documentation (assembling instructions, users manuals).
According to the type of system that has to be designed, additional specific methodologies are used.
- For creation tools, such as digital music instruments, there are numerous ways to make the connection between data coming from gesture devices and the algorithms that generate sounds and images (mapping). Blue Yeti elaborates the connection gesture-sound/image by implementing strategies steming from scientific researches, in particular by dividing mapping into intermediate steps in order to take into account human aspects from action and perception points of view. This methodology enables to design systems that offer great expressiveness and that complete their functions.
- For the production of interactive systems with graphical interfaces, Blue Yeti implements methodologies steming from the field of Human-Computer Interaction and adapts them to the type of system that has to be designed. For example, for the design of digital music instruments using graphical interaction, Blue Yeti makes use of a specific interaction model developped at CNRS-LMA. Moreover, Blue Yeti is able to design systems using advanced interaction technics such as multi-pointing and mixed reality.
